Campaign Day World Vision and objectives

The 9th October is World Sight Day. This event is part of Vision 2020, a global initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), together with a coalition of international organizations. On this occasion, the celebration will focus on the group of the Third Age.

From the UNESCO Chair in Visual Health and Development, and members of the program, we developed various support materials the campaign among which are an interactive game, a story, posters, leaflets and balloons. All this is done in order to be distributed free to all entities or professionals interested in disseminating and performing any act, in the days leading up to it as their own Thursday 9 October.

GOALS WORLD VISION-V2020-IAPB

The World Sight Day is an annual international event that focuses on the global problem of blindness. Currently it is estimated that 180 million people worldwide suffer from visual impairment, and of these, 45 million are blind. Due to population growth and aging, these figures will double by 2020.
The objective of this campaign is to raise awareness worldwide about the importance of prevention and treatment of vision loss. The event places special emphasis on the Right to View The right to eye care, which reduces the magnitude of avoidable blindness, is part of the obligation arising under the law at the highest level of health, as prescribed in Article 25 Universal Declaration of Human Rights United Nations.
Justification of this campaign lies in the fact that, according to WHO, up to 80% of cases of blindness are avoidable, either because they result from preventable conditions (20%) or because they may be to the point of recovering vision (60%). More than two thirds of the global magnitude of blindness is caused by preventable or treatable eye conditions.
resources are insufficient especially in developing countries where they live 9 out of 10 affected world. blindness of their time in these places, staff trained in eye care is inadequate, as is access to drugs and clinical equipment oftalmológicos.La blindness is more common among marginalized populations, women and Third World countries, which are between 5 and 10 times more likely to go blind than people who live in countries not to develop industrializados.En if urgent action, the number of blind and visually impaired will reach 360 million in 2020, 90 had developed blindness turn total.Si we consider that, today, cost-effective interventions exist for all major blinding eye diseases, from humanitarian perspective and socio-economic development would be unacceptable to allow it.
The theme for 2008: Defects in vision in the Third Age.
Each edition of the World Sight Day is dedicated to a different coletivo. As in the previous edition the theme revolved around children, this year it is the collective leadership of the Third Edad.Este group is statistically more likely to suffer vision-related pathologies.
WHO statistics speak of the existence of 153 million people with uncorrected refractive error. Of these 153 million, 13 were children, 45 adults of working age and 95 to over 50 años.Son many places where it is accepted as a normal condition visual loss associated with aging. Not being perceived as a problem, does not result in the search for solutions.
An overview to the world helps us to remember that this age.
